Ariel view of Dunbar - Volunteer Arms, DunbarDunbar is a town situated about halfway between Edinburgh and Berwick-Upon-Tweed on the A1; paired with Lignières in France and Martinez in California, with particularly strong links with the United States due to the Legacy of 'John Muir' a naturalist, author, and early advocate of preservation of wilderness, born in Dunbar who went on to play an instrumental part in the founding the US national parks.

The popular seaside town is a former royal Burgh, once a popular tourist destination with a large fishing fleet. Nowadays the town is more of a commuter town being situated so close to Edinburgh, though it still popular with tourists in the summer months and the fishing fleet is still present though much smaller focusing mainly on shellfish.

Belhaven Bay - Volunteer Arms, DunbarBeaches

The town features two beaches, the 'East Beach' and the stunning 'Belhaven Bay' which stretches for a couple of miles parallel to John Muir country park to the west of the town. 

Golf

Dunbar Golf Club was Laid out in 1857 and redesigned by Old Tom Morris around 1894. It is used as an Open Championship Qualifying Venue when the Open is played at Muirfield and all of the major Scottish Championships have been played here,  Dunbar is also home to Winterfield Golf Club. 

 Watersports

Recent years have seen a huge rise in watersports in the area, Dunbar is now a popular destination for scuba divers, kayakers, sailors and surfers with a local surf school now established in the town.

History

The town is also stooped in history a number of remnants of this can still be seen, Dunbar Castle in particular.

Dunbar Harbour - Volunteer Arms, DunbarHarbours

The town has two harbours the Cromwell Harbour and the newer Victoria Harbour. The harbour have a variety of users both commercial and pleasure. Plans are now being drawn up to turn the harbour into a modern marina.

Dunbar is also home to the Dunbar RNLI Lifeboat.
